Shostakovich/Symphonies No.5 & No.9 (Haitink, 1979/1981)

Includes No.5 and No.9 from Shostakovich complete symphonies recording on Decca UK, conducted by a Dutch conductor Bernard Haitink, performed by Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra. No.5 is a popular piece featuring a classical composition, symmetry and theme of victory over repression, like Beethoven's No.5. The light, refined and humorous style of No.9, as if to poke fun at Stalin, was heavily criticized by Soviet authorities, and it led to later Zhdanov Doctrine.
