High Rise/High Rise II (1986/1993)

A rock band led by Asahito Nanjo (vocals, bass guitar) and Munehiro Narita (guitar) and formed in 1982 as "Psychedelic Speed Freaks". They released their first album in 1984 and changed the band name to "High Rise" after J. G. Ballard's novel at the same time. "II" is the first album released in 1986 under the name of "High Rise". A masterpiece of Japanese psychedelic heavy rock/noise rock, includeing the noisy distorted guitar of psychedelic garage rock, speedy feeling of punk, heaviness of hard rock/heavy metal, and guitar improvisation like blues rock. The lyrics are English and Japanese (but the vocals are buried in its noisy sounds and are hard to hear). The digitally remastered and remixed CD was released in 1993 with two previously unreleased bonus tracks. Recommended to those who like Jimi Hendrix, Blue Cheer, Hawkwind, Sonic Youth and Grunge bands.
