Merzbow/1930 (1998)

Merzbow is a solo project started in 1979 by Masami Akita, a noise musician born in Tokyo in 1956. Merzbow had released enormous numbers of albums since the 1980s, and his works have been highly regarded in Europe and America too. The album "1930" (released on John Zorn's label Tzadik in 1998) is one of his masterpieces. Avant-Garde noise music by using "noise electronix", analog synths (EMS, Moog), tapes and others. A flood of harsh noises without clear melodies and rhythms, but it sounds like pretty "musical", for it has some kinds of compositions and developments.

A Kayo-funk rock band formed by ACKY (vocals) and Sinner-Yang (bass) in 1994, Omokage Lucky Hole's major-label debut album. The sound is based on soul music such as funk, R&B and hip hop. The melodies and lyrics are in Showa Kayo (Japaese lowbrow pop songs in the Showa era) style such as mood chorus kayo and enka. Eiichi Otaki/Each Time (1984)

A pop album with elaborate and massive sound, which developed the style of his previous album "A Long Vacation". #1 on the Japanese pop album charts. The songs in themselves are mellow and peaceful. Not so glamorous as "A Long Vacation". I recommend the 2004 reissued CD "Each Time 20th Anniversary Edition", for it has best quality of sound and it features two single tracks not included in the original LP, "Bachelor Girl", "Fjord no Shojo (A Girl in the Fjord)", and three bonus tracks. "Peppermint Blue" and "Bachelor Girl" are especially good.
